Regenon Review
The anorectic drug Regenon (amfepramon hydrochloride) is authorised to be taken in the following way: "Patients with adipositas and body mass index (BMI) 30 kg/m2 or more, who have not responded in a satisfactory way to a weight loss programme, may take Regenon as a supplement to dietetic treatment."
It further appears from the medicinal product’s summary of product characteristics that,
- only short-term effect on weight loss has been shown
- only doctors with experience in obesity treatment should administer the treatment
- obesity treatment should be complete and include dietary, medical and psychotherapeutic methods
- the duration of the treatment is normally four to six weeks and should not be longer than three months
- children under the age of 15 should not consume the medicinal product in question.
